Publisher's Note

Last month was packed with Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations, and November begins with multiple Day of the Dead events around time, something I had never seen before in the 20 years that I have been in New Orleans.

Our city’s demographics have certainly changed, and residents are embracing the cultural diversity along with the new traditions. Make sure to check out our calendar of events here and on vivanolamag.com for additions after our print date.

Of course, November also means Thanksgiving! I’m thankful because I am finally able to officially welcome a new team member! Marcella Escarfuller has been writing for us for a few months now and has even helped with editing and layout in past issues. She is very passionate about our work at VIVA NOLA and has committed to working with us on a regular basis, so I take this opportunity to welcome her to the VIVA NOLA Magazine team!

Marcella is a native New Orleanian who grew up in a Dominican/Nicaraguan household. Marcella is multitalented. She is an artist who graduated from Tulane University for her bachelor’s degree in Studio Art and she means business as she holds a master’s in business management from the A.B. Freeman School of Business.

Marcella has previously worked for the Audubon Institute and Telemundo 42, and is now leading our marketing efforts and sales.

I am looking forward to having her on board!
