New Chief Curator:

The New Orleans Museum of Art has appointed Anne Collins Smith as its new Chief Curator. Smith will lead collection and exhibition initiatives, focusing on modern and contemporary art. Previously, she was director of the Xavier University of Louisiana Art Gallery. Lisa Rotondo-McCord, formerly Deputy Director of Curatorial Affairs, has taken on the new position of Deputy Director at NOMA, and will continue to serve as Curator of Asian Art.

Exhibition Partnership: “New African Masquerades: Artistic Innovations and Collaborations” is organized in partnership with the Musée des Civilisations noires. The exhibition is supported by grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the National Endowment for the Arts and will have parallel tours in North American and African venues.

Featured Artists: The exhibition will feature the works of Chief Ekpenyong Bassey Nsa, Sheku “Goldenfinger” Fofanah, David Sanou, and Hervé Youmbi. The 13 head-to-toe masquerade ensembles were created for social, spiritual, entertainment, and museum contexts.
