Doctor del Mes – April
What inspired you to study medicine?
During my childhood, I suffered from severe asthma, to the point where I would ask my mother to take me to the doctor. My mother, an internal medicine physician, was a great influence. Knowing firsthand that a doctor can help you feel better was something that marked my life.
What is your greatest passion regarding your profession or specialty?
The recovery of my pediatric patients. It is impressive to witness the love and desire for life they possess. When they begin to recover, the first thing they want to do is play and eat. In a way, it reminds me of the innate resilience of the human being.
In your specialty, is there a recurring condition you would like to mention?
Asthma. Also, within our Latino population, there is a severe increase in obesity. As a community, we must be informed and act preventively.
What advice do you give to young immigrants or minority groups in the U.S. who dream of studying health careers?
They must keep going and see the “big picture.” Health care not only means high job stability but also an opportunity for significant change within our communities.
What are your hobbies?
I practice Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and have very good friends at my gym, Nola BJJ.
What do you enjoy about living in Louisiana?
I love all the music festivals and parades, although what truly made me fall in love with the city was its food and its people
